Polymer Vision says they’ll have a color screen version of their eReader in about 4 years. Why wait for technology to catch up? I’ve successfully spliced the Readius screen around the rediculously thin new Apple iPhone 3G.
Actually, I have not. but the Readius is the closest thing going right now.
This long awaited product is to debut in the next few weeks in Italy. It is probably the most advaced eReader on the market when it comes out. Its price has not yet been disclosed, but it has been rumored to be in the $300 range. Newspaper Publishers that were considering joining forces with Amazon or Sony should really rethink those Ideas.
As a younger person who is constantly surrounded by print and online graphic communications professionals, I have never known ANYONE who owns either a Kindle or Sony reader. Why? They’re bulky, they can only do one thing, they’re expensive, titles on those devices are only slightly cheaper than their traditional counterparts.
The Readius is a step in the right direction. The device is small. It is a “3G/3.5G (HSDPA) tri-band phone designed to work with GSM networks around the world” (with an earpiece). It can be used to recieve and view; emails, audio, video, periodicals, and books. It has a 30hour battery life and has Bluetooth 2.0 connectivity.
